Epic Adventure

Epic Blog East Bound

Day 22

Friday July 31st 2015

Time to head homewards. Unlike the westbound trip on I-40, we headed home the Northern route along I-90.  After we left Yellowstone's North East entrance we headed for Cooke City Montana. Shawn has many T-shirts from this place and we decided it was about time we actually got to see it for ourselves. I loved the original cash register that had to be replaced (because it only went up to $3.00). But the one they replaced it with was still circa 1800's. And the original tea containers was cool too! The store's motto: If we don't have it, you don't need it.

From here we went up Beartooth Pass Montana, stunning views from an amazing highway of nothing but switchbacks. Some of the pictures you can clearly see where the landslides (now repaired) had taken out big sections of the road. No wonder this highway is closed in winter.

It's hard to imagine how far you climb, but look at the snow in the mountains way up above us in the upper right corner of this picture

Now we can see the snow right outside the window as we drive next to it.

Check out all these switch back roads!

Hmmmm, seems to me that road we just drove over has recently been repaired from that landslide!

At the end of the day we decided not to make a big push East. We had an epiphany that all the bikes we were seeing were likey because Sturgis Bike Week is this week adn we figured heading East on Rte 90 right through Sturgis would probably be a bad idea, because we'd never find a hotel. So we called it a night in Billings Montana
